Integrative Seminar 1: Multiple Perspectives Reflection

1) what was the most important lesson that you learnt throughout this bridge topic?

In my opinion, the most important lesson that I learned throughout this bridge topic was learning to think creatively in my writing. It allowed me to insert my own thoughts and project them onto characters whom do not have a voice. I was able to look at a photograph of a person and develop an entirely new character for them. It was challenging, but exciting!

2) how did you approach the main written assignment? how easy/difficult was it and how did the class discussion influence your process?

I approached this writing by looking at the different photos and observing certain mannerisms and expressions. This way, I was able to make my own deductions about these characters and develop a story about them. This assignment was a lot easier for me than the last one.

3) once you started drafting your essay, did you change your topic or did you change the direction you wanted to take in your essay? what role did your sources and the class discussion have in shaping your opinion and your essay?

Once I was drafting my essay, I did not make many changes other than tweaking the writing every once in a while. I felt quite confident in the way I wanted to portray these characters and I tried to add as much texture and detail as possible.

4) what surprised you the most about the process of writing the essay? what was the most challenging part?

It surprised me how easily ideas and thoughts started to flow as I began to develop one’s story. Once I felt confident in an idea, more ideas began to help accompany the story. It became very interesting and I felt more in control of this writing compared to the last essays.

5) how is your seminar work connected to your studio work? what do they have in common?

My seminar work is connected to my studio work because both allowed me to approach the concept of perspective in different ways. In seminar, I had control of injecting personality and character into complete strangers, whereas in studio, I was working with a group and each member had their own perspective to contribute to the project. Both classes taught me to approach this project in various ways.
