Core Studio 1: Large Scale Drawing (in process)

Inspired by my sketchbook, I am drawn to explore the commotion of my subconscious, emerging through various forms in my dreams. The figures in this piece are not renderings of specific people, yet they represent the surrogate non personal, empty beings that appear within the depths of my subconscious. They are symbolic of real people that I have observed in my waking reality, and though their physical outer appearance is retained in my memory their being is simply reduced to  shells, that which contain my inner thoughts captive, and simply play a character in my dreams.

These characters tell me secrets that I already know, yet they contradict one another, confuse one another, and anger one another. They are at conflict, hesitant and uncertain. These characters in my dreams refuse logic and rationality, yet they seem drawn to an abyss of senseless incoherency. I am in stranded in a perpetual moment of contemplation.

The tree extending from the bottom and the top of the composition meet near the middle, yet don’t quite touch. This tree with its long tendrils expresses the state of my mind, unable to identify the real from the unreal; capable of understanding a tree’s basic form, yet wholly incapable of realizing that my existence in this dream-like realm is slightly off-kilter than the physical living world.

Weaving along the entire composition is a single black ribbon. The ribbon is not tied, but rather seems to float over the forms, captivated by the masses and thus, intertwining itself to  their presence. This ribbon signifies the relationship between the disparate forms spread throughout the composition. Although my waking self is unaware, my subconscious tells me…

Everything I know and everything I see and everything I will come to know is all very well intertwined. Everything in this real world share a relationship that I cannot even begin to fathom, yet somewhere in my subconscious, I understand fully.
