Project 4: Remember to Repeat: Process and Final

Concept & Reflection:

New York City is one of the loudest places I’ve been to. There is constant sound happening inside and outside, I can never help but notice it. When traveling from my dorm to class, I often notice how heavy the doors are because of their soundproof nature and need to be heavy enough not to open when there are heavy winds. I focused on the sound from one’s perspective of walking from A to B. During the routine of walking everyday, every single’s person is different whether or not it’s drastic, no matter where you are, the sound you hear is different. In this piece, I was thinking about the drastic change from the quiet, living space in my room to the process of walking to my class. It starts and ends quietly, however the experience of walking to B, is very loud. What makes things loud during a walking journey, specifically in NYC, is road work, conversations, people walking, emergency vehicles, etc. I had worked with Audition in the past, so I enjoyed doing this project. Considering it was short, it was fun to work with a Zoom H6 once again to refresh my memory. The actual act of recording the sound is always surprising due to the crisp capture of my surroundings. I recorded in the cafeteria, UC, a shop, on 5th Ave, and in the Parsons building. I have always enjoyed working with sound and am excited to combine audio with a visual project.
