Seminar II: Research Process 2

After the tour, I thought about the systems work with each other to create the overall operational unit of the building. It is for the attendees of the building and residents and they all work together, even though breaking down and needing maintenance often, to create the overall functionality that make the building work and operate. All while continuing writing the rough draft of my paper, the next steps in my research process was to look in depth at the design and construction of the building. I looked online at the actual architects description and vision for the building. (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill) The idea of it was to make it an all in one meeting space for students, faculty, admin, and all guests to the New School. It is the space where orientations are held, classes are held, working studios take place, the cafeteria is, resources, etc. As well as looking at architecture specific websites that analyzed the building itself, lots of them talked about how the campus life is unique and must match the environment and “attitude” of the school. Analyzing the operational functions of each utility that makes the building more sustainable, I break it down in each paragraph.
