Bridge 4 Proposal

In the year 2016, over 1,100 reported hate-crimes were reported against the LGBTQIA+ community, with many still remaining undocumented. Although people imagine that hate against our community is through with, there is still so much bigotry on this earth, and in our own country, that many turn their heads to. The plan for my publication of these issues is to create a clothing line which will be representative of the pain and vulgarity of the events which have taken place over the last century. Hate crimes against the Queer Community are still vastly present in our society today even though many mistakenly think that the worry for these things is gone due to the legalization of same sex marriage. Contrary to this belief, in the last 3 years hate crimes against the queer community have gone up more than 5% since 2015. In order to open more minds to the violent crimes taking place under their noses, I plan to create a line which takes inspiration from Mcqueen’s 1995 collection, Highland Rape, while embodying these traumatic events which have occurred over the past few years.
