A Reflection on John Brainard’s, “I Remember”

“I remember when I worked in an antique-junk shop I sold everything cheaper than I was supposed to.” (Pg. 7) : I find this memory interesting and humorous because I used work at a movie theater and everything was over-priced and I wanted to under-charge customers. I never really did, but sometimes I would give free things to people I liked.

“I remember being surprised at how yellow and how red autumn really is.” (Pg. 36): I had a very similar memory when I moved to Michigan, where along the roads were big green trees. These trees turned red and yellow in the autumn and  I remember thinking it was like Alice Wonderland.

“I remember after people are gone thinking of things I should have said but didn’t.” (Pg. 39): This memory is something I relate to. Often after an interaction I would reflect and think of things I should have said but never did.
