Jeanne-Claude – Environment

Jeanne-Claude is an artist that deals mostly with environmental installations. Often working with her husband under the name of “Christo and Jeanne-Claude”, Jean-Claude produces work that goes beyond a medium we are used to seeing. Perceived as an installation artist, she uses the environment as her canvas, altering the way we see a landscape we are familiar with. She has done work across Central Park in NYC, and the Pont-Neuf Bridge in Paris. Creating art on top of nature and our environment carries a significance that most art we see in museums does not. Seeing such an iconic landmark like the Pont-Neuf bridge wrapped with fabric, it brings  a new texture and shape to something that is so recognizable and historic. Her art, in a way, is satirical. This is what I admire about Jeanne-Claude and chose to research her, for the fact that she can take a familiar landscape and make it behave differently while still acknowledging what the landscape is.
