Tom Heatherwick is an experimental designer and architect. He is the founder of Heatherwick Studios which is composed of 180 creatives that work out of a studio in London. Heatherwick has designed all over the world and is known for his sometimes controversial projects. Heatherwick and his team work as problem solvers with no signature styles. Therefore, this leads to Heatherwick’s approach of design differently. With general knowledge of all field of design, Heatherwick solves design problems as an artist rather than designer. This may be the reason that his work doesn’t always seem to impress me, but when I find a Heatherwick project successful, it is usually involving a design solution that is innovative and embraceful. Studying architecture, I look for design solutions everywhere I go, and so the reason I chose to research Heatherwick was because of his highly innovative approach to problem-solving.
