Bridge 2: Process Documentation

I developed this character by combining both my partner’s interest and traits.

Firstly, my character’s nationality, Russian-Turkish, is composed of both our nationalities. My partner’s fashion interest and my architectural interest requires a lot of writing in explanation of our work, and so my character as a result is an author. After conducting the interview, I found both my partner and I have visions to re-invent and have a positive impact on the world through our field of interests, composing my character to be a re-inventor of storytelling through his writing, causing the controversy in his figure as an author.

Above are scanned images of newspaper cut outs I used in my character portrait.

My original idea was to create a collage composed from different people’s features cut from the newspaper, as well as text from the paper. As I further thought about this idea, it made no sense to me to create my character from found people in the newspaper, especially considering these people mean nothing to me nor my character.

As a result, I decided to compose my character from different figures that influence and inspire me and my partner. The face of my character is collaged from different architects (my field of interest) and the body is collaged from different fashion designers (my partner’s field of interest). Furthermore, I used text to highlight my character’s personality traits. The dialogue text is to represent my character’s philosophy of individualism; my character speaks when he finds necessary and sees progress, he is a minimalist in his work and personality. The two phrases seen in the center of the image, enhance the understanding of this character, not necessarily covering his personality traits. This text about Americans says about the characters nationality, nothing of American, and the other text is self-explanatory.
