Grand Central Observation

Experiencing Grand Central for the first time was quite interesting. I have seen photographs of the station many times and I never liked the way it looked, I thought that it was to square for a place with such movements. Then I entered, my first thought was the quietness of the space considering the amount of people occupying it. It had a great acoustic, the sounds gradually travel up the walls and curve towards the ceiling, subtly disappearing. That’s where I think the architecture of Grand Central works best. I visited on a Sunday afternoon, therefore not many people were crossing, mostly tourists photographing the ceiling in the middle of the concourse. I was able to sense my body and its sounds as well as consuming everything that was around me. Thinking about simultaneous perception, at times I got caught up in my surroundings that I couldn’t sense my footsteps, and sometimes I would focus too much on my senses that I forgot I didn’t notice any one around me.
