James Turrell in an American artist who creates work that deals with light and space. Considering, Turrell’s education in psychology, there is a relationship with his art and perceptual phycology. His work includes spaces composed of differently colored light and sometimes a few architectural elements, and when you step inside his work it is like entering a different perception of the world. In 1977, Turrell began his lifelong project, which is still in the progress, titled the Roden Crater. Located in the Arizona desert, it is a controlled environment for experiencing contemplating light. Conducting lifelong research on human perception and light, the Roden Crater is a journey inside Turrell’s most profound works. The reason I chose James Turrell as my artist for the week.
