Richard Serra is a sculptor and installation artist that works with large scale steel to compose structures and objects that evoke plain emotion. Serra was a major part of the Process Art Movement. He started with creating outdoor works that is site-specific, meaning it can merely function in the specific property. Serra’s work challenges the perception of the viewer with scale and material. I was lucky enough to see an instillation in the Gagosian Gallery where the walls were curvilinear and created this structure that was tilted in its own way. When you enter his work you are in a new space defined by his objects. Serra creates unique and powerful work that evokes emotion that is unusual due to the materiality and scale.
