My project is a creation referencing my research of Chelsea in the subject of Preservation. One aspect of my project references Chelsea’s highly successful task in architecture; preservation. Chelsea’s original plan of becoming a strictly residential neighborhood, to today, a mixture of industry, entertainment, and residence, the neighborhood continues to evolve while maintaining and developing its historical architecture. The second aspect comes from the fact that Chelsea sits along the Hudson River, which is often times forgotten while strolling through the neighborhood’s red-facade and steel buildings. Therefore, in an abandoned building on Chelsea’s Pier 57, I have decided to preserve and redevelop the building. Going back to the two aspects mentioned, this hotel will bring the concept of water into the architecture.
