Intro to fashion design

Through my collection, I want to communicate the issue of westernization in Egypt. Going to a French school with international students where we were only allowed to speak French really disconnected me from my Egyptian roots growing up. My history teacher once told us “The problem is that you resemble the average American person more than a lower-class Egyptian” and that really stuck to me. So, the concept behind my collection is to bring an Egyptian imprint to modern western fashion and connect my two identities in these garments. So, I took inspiration from traditional Egyptian clothing called “Bedouin clothes”. The Bedouins are a group of nomadic Arab people who inhabit the deserts in Egypt and other North African countries. Their clothes are usually long and loose to protect them from the sand, wind, and heat of the desert. They are also very famous for the beadings and patterns on their clothes. My lineup includes both, bedouin fashion and casual Western clothing. This will represent the “lower class Egyptian” and the “average American person”
