One and Three Still-Lifes

The one in three project derives from Joseph Kosuth’s One in Three Chairs which includes a picture of a chair, a chair in a factory and the definition of a chair. These various aspects of the same object is the inspiration behind this project. These three depictions of the same object question the validity of knowing things with the familiarity that we associate with the object. This multifaceted definition of “chair” is the reason why this project is called One in Three: There are three ways to depict this one object.

The objects I chose were ones I use on an everyday basis: my pencil case, my headphones, my notebook and my bangle. They all accompany me in my everyday life and expanding the definition of these objects was something that piqued my interest.  Using photoshop, I distorted the image to represent how I felt about them more. This included making the colors more vibrant to heighten their meaningfulness to me. The text based portion was related to how these objects define me as an artist. The text supports my views on being an artist.
