Shepard Fairey’s goal was to make art by any means necessary. “To some people street art is vandalism, to others it’s gentrification, and either of those could be considered more legit than the other depending on your perspective,” says Fairey. Fairey’s best known art piece, “Hope” poster, is an experiment of an era of promise beginning with the United States’ election of its first black president. Fairey said he has “come to realize that the problems are not dependent on the actions of one person” but are largely symptoms of a broken system where corporations and oligarchs corrupt democracy. I personally respect his idea of expressing his principles and perspectives in to his art. I want to experience putting my voice in to my work just like Fairey did.

prototypes inspired by Shepard Fairey

I wanted to make a logo that would make an impact on the world like Shepard Fairey’s works did. The Obey campaign, an experiment of Fairey’s, was made to reawaken a sense of wonder about one’s environment. I was inspired by his works and wished my work to attempt to stimulate curiosity and bring people to question what it really means in deeper understanding. I can use those prototypes on my t-shirt or hat and it would not take a huge amount of time.
