Cross-Course Reflection

My name is Ojasvin Kirpane. I am a BFA Design and Technology student and this is my reflection on the first year at Parsons.

  • During my first year I discovered that my art is either very personal or political. It draws inspiration from Pop-art, Punk and street art.
  • The academic writing courses really helped me research and analyse art more deeply. It has really forced me to consider the work I make in the studio, and how it is influenced by, and can potentially influence society and culture.
  • I found the more conceptual art assignments the most enjoyable. I also greatly enjoyed the video projects as filmmaking is something that I’ve never really dabbled in.

– I think further research into art styles and movements, especially with regards to techniques would be very useful.

Highlights: (1) The leftmost image here was planned to be more in the style of communist propaganda posters and was about Coca Cola and it’s impact on Indian farmers. I did a lot of research on the issue and the art style before making the piece.

 (2) This still life was painted/colored with illustrator and introduced me to digital imaging techniques and really expanded my horizons.

I hope to learn more going forward and acquire better and newer skills.
