Assignment 2: Lost Objects

The inspiration for this piece is a tale of a knit doll from Amsterdam. My partner’s father gave her a van Gogh doll in Amsterdam, at the van Gogh museum. She kept the doll with her and even brought it to NYC with her. To my partner the doll is how she keeps her family, and especially her father’s love for her, keeping him close. My first concept for my piece was eventually the one I ran with, using a diptych style portrayal, the first panel depicting the offering of a gift and the second showing the doll’s journey to NYC. I initially intended to use paints and pencil for the piece, but I found my digital rendering more interesting, and it is also a new medium for me. The collage style of graphic design was inspiring and gave a pop-art impression to my concept. The fun colors and jaunty angles help keep the object story alive.
