Mask of the Anthropocene

OCEAN WASTE.

Out of all the plastic produced in a year, only 15% of it is recycled. The rest ends up in the ocean or in landfills where it is left to rot for centuries to come. Trash that is in the ocean puts marine life at extreme risk. Plastic debris floats on the water and is ingested by animals who then have to suffer the consequences of human greed.

This mask is made out of rubber, fused plastic bags and straws and is an attempt to raise awareness about the trash that is ending up in the oceans and its destructive effects. It is very heavy and covers the wearer’s eyes so that they realize what it may feel like for marine life when this unrequited trash gets in their way. This is a very urgent issue and needs to be solved as soon as possible. Countries need to work together to find a solution. The amount of plastic being produced needs to be regulated and consumers must try and refrain from using non-biodegradable materials as well.
