Meaningful Object Assignment

I was given a ring by my mother as a graduation gift that has since never left my right-hand ring finger. The ring is handcrafted from sterling silver by a family friend who is, as of recent,  an aspiring jeweler. In the center of the ring lies a beautifully sanded lapis lazuli precious stone. The center of the ring is vertical and oval-shaped with the top slightly narrower than the bottom. The majority of the lapis is a rich blue color with specks of gold scattered throughout, resembling a beautiful night sky or a partial view of space from a telescope. At the top-right corner of the ring’s focal point there are two small balls of silver, with the one on top being slighter smaller than the bottom. I love how you can see some minor imperfections in the craftsmanship of the ring as it adds to its character and proves the fact  it is truly one of a kind.

There is so much thought for symbolism that was put into the making of this ring. All crystals and precious stones have historical meanings and purposes and are supposed to give guidance and help with certain aspects of life. According to buddhism, lapis lazuli, is most historically known to bring inner peace and positive energy to those who possess it. It is also well known to release stress, help find one’s inner truth, and expand overall awareness to one’s surroundings. Unironically, these are all things that I assume will be very helpful as I am starting over in a new place and embarking onto a new journey at college. I am not usually someone to believe in crystal energies blindly, but I really do feel a noticeable difference since I have began wearing this ring.

I chose this object because although it is relatively new to me, it has become more than just an accessory, but a reminder to stay focused as I am adjusting to Parsons and New York City. I have only taken the ring off a few times since I have gotten it, and each time I felt like I was missing something until I put it back on.
