Topics 2D – Project 2: Process

What did you already know about the topic you are researching and working with when you started?  What do you understand now?

  • Considering that most of this piece is very internal and introspective, most of the researching was within myself and thinking. I do think that this project had made me realize how complex emotions are.

How is the progress on the project development going and what are the challenges and frustrations that have come up so far? What can you do to address these?

  • To be completely honest, I am not really that happy with where the piece is right now. I feel like I need to make some more daring moves in the painting, it feels too safe and calm and tense to me right now. I am excited to see how it ends up, I think it will most likely look very different when it is finished so I am looking forward to continuing to work on it.

How are you working differently than you normally do through this project?  How are you working the same?

  • Yes, I have been working very differently through this project then I normally do. I usually work very large and abstract, but in this work I wanted to push myself to work with figures and representational subject matter. I am however working with acrylic and unstretched canvas which is what I am used to, although I think I am going to start incorporating other materials into the work as well.

State the art (historical or contemporary) and societal contexts where your work resides.

  • I think that the work is in conversations with surrealist artists, as well as the artists that I listed in the research section of the project.

State questions that you have about the project and work.

  • Are there any directions that you think I should take with the work?
