It is very hard to believe that there is 1.5 million packages in new york city per day. There are 8.62 million people lives in new york that means ⅛ of them can receive a package a day. I don’t think there is any way to stop people shopping online but there are ways to make the delivery and shipping process more sustainable. First, the package company may use as few materials as possible to package their product. Second, I think deliver company should figure shortest way or more sustainable way to deliver. Also, the possibility of reuse of the packaging material is also important. If all package materials can be collected and reused, there must be more sustainable than the single use package. I live in China and the online shopping is far more popular than us. Almost everyone in China shop online and the package amount is huge. There are lots of derivative industry chain such as green logistics, cold chain transport. However, more and more Chinese realized that sustainable online shopping is so important based on the large population we have and any small environmental problems will immediately turns to huge problem.
