Final Post for Self-Portrait Project

Reflection: I chose the memory of my last University of Miami football game with my family seeing as going to these games has become a tradition. My grandparents went to UM, both of my parents went to UM, and all of their siblings went to UM. My parents have been going to these games since before they can even remember, and my  two younger brothers and I ourselves have been going to all the games since we were very young. Commemorating this “last” was personal, and it felt important to me that I do it, especially during this new time of change in my life. In one of my pictures I wanted to show myself in a cozy, home-like environment reflecting on that day I shared with my family, whereas in my other picture I wanted to show how I’ve brought “Miami” with me to New York City despite having left home – it is engrained in my identity. I incorporated sport statistic clippings from the New York Post (a way of merging this passion of mine and the new place I’m living in) as well as a scan of my original ticket from this last game, collaging everything together. I found the feedback I got back from critique extremely helpful. To further push that “obsessive” quality that most sports fans possess as well as my search for home in things around me, I plan on adding more newspaper clippings and making the piece larger, almost “drowning” (but not quite) my two photos with this newspaper and then going back and highlighting every instance where I see a Miami team. As for the flower shapes on the photos themselves, I am considering either getting rid of them all together or making them 3D so that they pop off of the page in a way. One thing in particular I feel that I’ve learned from this whole experience is that if I have a hunch/ an idea, I should go for it.
