5 Out of 20 Narrative

The image I chose to discuss in more detail is the third image of my narrative – the one with the poet and the little girl. The “punctum”, in my opinion, is the expression on the girl’s face as she watches him type. I can’t pinpoint it exactly – perhaps confusion over how the typewriter works? Nonetheless, it’s obvious that she’s intrigued, and this stands out to me / pulls me in. In addition to this, her hot pink shirt is eye catching when compared to the rest of her predominantly gray and somewhat muted background. The “stadium” is my general interest in poetry/literature itself, performers / artists, photos of children, and how I recognize this place to be Washington Square Park. When choosing my five photos, I knew I’d want to have it center around the poet considering he was the only person who showed up in two of my shots. Not only this, but the theme “literature” was present in some of the other photos (ex: photos of people reading). Having an interest in the playfulness and curiosity that children possess, though, I decided to use a photo of some children playing around the fountain (seeing as this tied into the little girl seen in one of my photos of the poet) and wrote the story so that it centered around both children and poetry. Although I took some shots containing vivid colors in my original twenty, after choosing the first few photos for my five and realizing that they were mostly gray I wanted to continue this aesthetic throughout.
