Unit 4 Time

Reflection:

HTML and CSS were definitely a challenging yet fun new “language” to learn. Having to choose an event and then tell it through three different perspectives, I chose to tell the story of my family’s Christmas Day and our preparation for it through the perspective of myself, my mother, and my grandmother. My subject matter felt relevant given that the holidays are approaching, and the idea that different generations view things in different ways has always seemed interesting to me. I first created a site map, planning out how users would navigate my eleven webpages and how the different pages would link to one another. My first page would be a main homepage describing how this site is meant to act as an organized family photo / video gallery with some insight into the views of different family members. From here, users would then be directed to a page titled “Who do you want to hear from?”, giving them a list of different stories and holiday related activities to choose from. To find material for my pages I first looked through different online folders that my family has been adding to over the years containing images and videos from every Christmas as far back as 2000 and then asked my mother and grandmother some questions on their own experiences. On top of this, I used illustrator to make the mistletoe background seen throughout the site. Some struggles included setting up my background image and having all my photos / videos on each web page displayed in a way that there are two, fixed side by side images centered on the page, and then below that another two, and another two, and so on and so forth. In the end I was able to resolve everything (with some help and online searching), and I feel that this is a skill I can further develop that will be useful later on.
