Bridge 1: Project Statement_February 2019

Project Statement (Bridge 1): This series, titled “Farmers Market”, came to be through consciously acknowledging my natural stream of thoughts when considering different questions I asked of Union Square’s farmers market. Only after finishing the series did I notice how personal each one was, each stream of thought ending on something that pertained to me and my experiences as opposed to just general observations. I chose to collage when working on each piece, using similar techniques and the same type of gray paper for each of their backgrounds (also making sure that they were all about the same size). I made these decisions in the hopes that, despite their different colors and depictions, viewers would still see them as pieces that could stand on their own as well as pieces that belong to a cohesive set. The most important thread holding them all together, though, is me, and how each one came from my own thoughts and memories. Instead of solely focusing on the very last thoughts I had before working on each one, I decided to include aspects that reflect the thought processes as a whole from start to finish. The pieces individually are titled Blue Light, Parents, Apartment, Canyon, and Group Essay.
