Bridge 1: Reflection – February 2019

Please answer all questions.

1. How did you choose the images that you visualized?

The images in this series came to be through consciously acknowledging my natural stream of thoughts when considering different questions I asked of Union Square’s farmers market. I chose to focus on all of my thought processes from start to finish rather than solely focusing on the last thoughts produced. To arrive at my final pieces, I would find what best visually represented each thought, whether it be a certain person, a color, an object, etc.

2. How did you choose the medium you selected for each piece?

Each piece was made using the same materials (more or less). I chose to collage (using things such as photos, text, a postcard, textured papers, and color stix) seeing as I was focusing on all of my thought processes from start to finish – collage was the best way for me to incorporate everything and give it that overlaying, interconnected look that reflects the way my thoughts worked.

3. How did you choose how to present the work?

Considering that my final product was 5 physical 2D pieces, I chose to present them all in a straight line going horizontally across the wall since we normally tend to view things set up like this from left to right and they were in the order in which I thought of them (further emphasizing my stream of consciousness).

4. How did you choose to connect/ or not connect the pieces to each other?

I chose to connect the pieces by using similar techniques and the same type of gray paper for each of their backgrounds (also making sure that they were all about the same size) in the hopes that, despite their different colors and depictions, viewers would still see them as pieces that could stand on their own as well as pieces that belong to a cohesive set.

5. How did you feel (felt sense & emotional narrative) about presenting your writing – note keeping?

Similar to how I felt about sharing the work itself – the smallest part of me felt a bit shy at the idea of sharing some of the more personal ideas and writings (not that they were extremely personal but because it was sharing memories regarding my family, friends, and love life to a group of people im not necessarily close to yet).

6. How did you feel (felt sense & emotional narrative) about showing your work?

The smallest part of me felt a bit shy at the idea of sharing some of the more personal pieces (not that they were extremely personal but because it was sharing memories regarding my family, friends, and love life to a group of people im not necessarily close to yet), although during critique I was able to keep it vague enough while still getting the ideas across so I ultimately felt comfortable.

7. How did it feel to have the DAI happen with you present?

I appreciated having my work broken down to its core elements, giving me a perspective I hadn’t quite considered. In the case of the peer-to-peer DAI posts, It was also comforting and reassuring to know that someone else was writing everything down and that I’d be able to review it all later assuming I didn’t remember everything from critique.

8. How did you choose your questions for the audience/ viewers?

I chose to ask questions that I would ask myself (and didn’t have answers to) while creating the work.

9. What changes would you make to the work if you did another iteration?

I would probably play around with the compositions a bit more before gluing and collaging things.

10. If there was something that you could have shared with your viewers to bring additional context or understanding, what would it be?

To help give my viewers a deeper understanding of the series, I would have shared the in depth thought processes that I went through with each piece.
