S+M Final Project: Umbrella

This was by far the most complex project that I would endure last semester, and at the same time my favorite and least favorite. I wanted to challenge myself by making an umbrella out of plexiglass rather than wood like the rest of my class. I struggled with a couple things, like the wrong format on the laser cutter, or the pole snapping the day before (thus the wood) the due date. But in the end it was all worth it and it looked quite magical, especially when twirling. I wanted it to drape and feel sort of funeral-esque. I made the hubs out of double sided mirror and added many safety pins to the rim of the umbrella. I did not take a bunch of photos but here is what I have…
