Fashion Image Making: Self i-MAGE

The Real and The Fantasy

This project will be framed and underpinned by the study of fashion image-makers and artists who have produced work in this area whilst also researching other more disparate sources not often associated with fashion images such as crime photography, documentary and social media. The project will be spilt into three sections: the real, the fantasy, and the reconstructed self. The aim of the first two sections is to focus on creating a singular image that articulates the real and the fantasy self.

For this project I thought of fantasy as something that I am not, something that I don’t plan on being.  I chose a  typical housewife from the 50s. Not that I have anything against people who want to be housewives, it just is not something for me.

I created four “recipe” cards satirizing how to be a good housewife.

I found different housewife images, then overlaid my self over it. I didn’t want a clear paste but rather a sheerness to be able to see both me and my “fantasy” ( I put the PDFs at the bottom as they are more clear then the scans). Instead of just making an image, I wanted to go into the theme more and create physical objects to be shown.

(I did not make this box, I found it and re-used it to store my project. But I felt it was important to show the way in which the project was displayed)
