(the featured image is not mine *** by Genieve Figgis my angel)

In my Integrated Design Studio we all have to share something in which we either have as a skill or something we want to learn. I have 5 hundred million billion things I want to learn (like be a better film maker, sculpture, I want to work with resin) but something I think I don’t have much traditional skill in is in painting. I never took classes in it nor did it “properly”. I don’t know the proper steps or really specifics to set up a proper painting and starting one without other mixed media in it is something that seems really hard for me.

I also feel that as a child I though figures were something that needed to be realistic and that is what made you a good artist. Though now I am totally the opposite and am a wonk, I still know I occasionally question the level of work if it is of an odd nature.

One of my favorite artists in the whole world, Genieve Figgis, is a painter and I am constantly staring at her work yet have a hard time totally understanding how she does it. But maybe that is why I am attracted to it? the not knowing. Yet I love it and would like to learn/push myself to paint more in my own style (and to find that in painting) and also to just learn her ways as well. While not always pressuring myself to do it, I would like to learn to make paintings with feelings or a point.
