Final Paper Proposal

The lady in this photograph is Eleanor Lambert, the founder of fashion week. This is Eleanor Lambert in her office on 57th Street, in New York City taken on December 23, 1963. She organized the first one, called Press Week, in New York in 1943. This painting was taken from Bettmann/Corbis. Through this image, I would like to capture not only the significance of Elenor Lambert in NYFW history but also trace the progress of fashion week as it evolved from “press week”. I find it interesting how this picture captures so much from her iconic dressing style with her pearl necklace(seen in almost all her outfits) but also her husband’s photograph on her desk. To me, this picture shines light on a person without whom NYFW may or may not have even been here today. She also has a very chic and classy dressing style that is beautiful and timeless.

This picture is taken from the 1960’s at the Kentucky Derby. It is interesting to see how fashion has evolved over the years yet the dressing for these derbies have more or less stayed the same with some twists. I love horses and have learnt how to horse ride for about 5 years. This is why I have a personal interest in the Derby. The women who come to attend wear classy chic outfits with hats and I resonate with these styles.

This picture of my mother(the one on the extreme left), and her friends was taken in 1986 in Bangalore, a city in India, on their girls trip for a weekend getaway during college. I personally am drawn to the picture because I can draw an analogy between my mother’s childhood experiences and what I am going through right now. It is a sweet picture that brings back wonderful memories to my mother and manages to put a smile on my face every time I look at it too! I also chose it because it is interesting to see how much the dressing styles have changed over the year, even the ways one does their hair or even poses now.
