By using symbols of the universe in this self-portrait such as orbiting planets and rings, I am portraying the curiosity I have for the universe we live in. I reach further into the psyche of my mind to explore my identity as I use the universe as a metaphor to describe the complexity of one’s mind and experiences. I find the parallels from one person to the next interesting because within ourselves there are events, emotions, and experiences that no other being can experience in the same way. We are all universes within, trying to grasp everything we know all at once into concepts we can understand. This eagerness makes us adventurous and open-minded creatures.
The piece itself is adventurous and opened-minded. It is open for different interpretations to my viewers. Also, as an artist, my favorite medium to work with is mixed media. The process of this piece is adventurous as well because the way I create my artwork is always experimental, leading to mixed media aspects. Majority of the time, I start out with a plan but once the piece is complete, something is always altered; an element can be added or eliminated from the original design.
