Game Reflection

INTRODUCTION

This was a group exercise and its objective was to create a boardgames that depicted the personal journey of each member to Parsons. Initially we made a map of our journeys individually , then we paired up and discussed a set of given questions. Each pair was joined by another to create a group of four. The four people in each group form the team to create the board game.

GROUP PROCESS

I made a map of my journey and integrated my mental journey with the choices I had to make to reach Parsons. My group members were Anamika, Kevin and Paige. We decided to make a game that incorporated the various important factors of our individual journeys on our game board as pictures that would serve as destinations. We each picked 7 images and then decided to place a picture of the University Center in the middle. The game is played by matching the cards at hand to the ones on the board using the game piece and pushing the cards in order to create paths. We decided to restrict the colors we used to The New School colors- red, white and black. The game is all about creating paths to reach one’s personal goal which is the card at hand, it is meant to convey the fact that each of us made it to Parsons by using opportunities that we found or ones that we created. The Narwhal Network is supposed to allow players to not only use luck but also to use strategy in the process of meeting their goals.

Alterations based on critique

After the critique from our peers , we discovered that our path cards were slightly too large to be pushed easily and we also discovered that our game rules missed a few details such as how to proceed from one card to the next. After the critique, we resized all of out path cards and added in and edited some game rules.

COLLABORATIONS

Overall, my group worked very well together and split the work evenly. Paige and Kevin worked in the laser lab as well as the technicalities of our project. Anamika and I worked on the final design of the project. Individually, I think I contributed my efforts to making our game as successful as possible. My roles were to organize the rules and work of the final design such as coloring the board and cutting the pieces and cards.
