Dress Practice Log

On evaluating my dress practice log I noticed that the themes of culture, religion, society and comfort largely impacted the way I dressed. My strong cultural foundation is something that I have been conditioned to respect and uphold since a very young age. Every decision I take involves me giving due consideration to its impact on my culture and family values. My religion also does not allow me to dress in a manner that would be deemed as offensive according to its principles. My religion has not only been imparted to me but I myself have chosen to have faith in it which is also why on my own accord I wear religious elements like the ‘moli’ thread on my hand always. Society was another major theme that I saw impacting my dressing. I noticed that we usually dress in accordance to the people we’re going to meet or to fit into the social groups that surround us. dress to college or when I’m with my friends versus when I’m surrounded by my family/ relatives.

I noticed that I had started to wear a lot of black every day influenced by the trend of black in New York and among the crowd at Parsons. I feel like I blend well in the crowd, not attracting unnecessary attention/feeling like an outcast. It also helps me feel more serious and professional.

In terms of clothing and its relationship to my body, I understood that my body likes to be covered and comfortable mostly. The clothes shouldn’t be a restriction to my bodily movements.  I need to also feel good about the color of my clothes in respect to how it interacts with my skin color.
