For my zero waste garment I wanted to echo our future of design. I think sustainability is something that the fashion world is currently striving to achieve. Sustainability to me is a very futuristic and hopeful concept therefore I wanted to make my garment look rather futuristic and bright. I knew I wanted to do pleats because that was one of the easiest ways to get rid of fabric and it also adds a rather cute and origami style touch to any garment. I was immdiatly inspired by Issey Miyake when I thought out pleats, but instead of doing her thin and lean pleats I decided to do box pleats. I wanted to cut the shoulders in a circular form because it looks more natural to me, which is why I got left with so many scrap fabrics, which was in a way what I wanted to achieve. I used the scraps strategically and placed them as pockets on the jacket, which I felt gave off a functional and futuristic aspect to the jacket itself. I located the photoshoot in a bright park on a nice day and I felt that it played rather well with the garment because I wanted to spread awareness about sustainability so I felt it was only fitting doing it in a park. It was a different experience creating a zero waste garment, because when I finished the garment, there was nothing left on m work table. Everything was cleaned up and it was such a refreshing feeling. I think the future of sustainability and zero waste is bright and I do feel like sustainable fashion can still be considered fashionable.
