Bridge 5: Studio/Seminar Reflection

Bridge 5 Reflection

  • How have the “making” and “writing” you’ve done this semester influenced each other?

Making and writing on the same project bridged the gap between my struggles of integrating my ideation, creative process, and resolution. I was able to create a project artistically but had a hard time communicating my thoughts behind it. Studio and Seminar allowed me to practice both my presentation skills and critical thinking in my creative work.

  • What are the highlights of your Studio and Seminar work?

I am excited for my final presentation on the AIDS epidemic. I believe that the interconnectivity between our political climate and artistic activism allowed me to solidify my opinions and publicize my ideas.

    • What connections do you see between your academic studies and studio making?

An artwork doesn’t always require an explanation but when needed, it should be executed clearly. Practicing my writing skills that speak specifically from the perspective as the creator behind my assignments aided in my ability to think in various perspectives.

    • What made some projects/ papers more exciting? What did you enjoy most about these?

Sharing ideas and interpersonal email conversations that critiqued my creative process allowed me to think critically and how my work would be interpreted by a young audience.

    • When could further research have helped?

When presenting a project that touches upon numerical statistics and a real historical event within America’s political sphere.

  • Where have you found yourself most challenged?

My site specific paper was an uncomfortable assignment because it required me to go outside and observe a set location that I had never been to.

  • What have you had to change in your process along the way?

Instead of relying completely on my own intelligence, I began to acknowledge the need to accept constructive criticism from my peers.

  • Where have you grown the most?

Integrating creative process and artistic vision with a proper explanation targeted toward an audience.

  • Did you pick up any new methods or skills or ideas that you wish to use going forward?

Creating an annotated bibliography in Chicago Manual Format.

  • Please reflect on what you wish to carry into the future from Studio and Seminar this year.

Empathizing with others allows people to connect in a humane fashion. Emotions are powerful and rationale is not always completely dependable at times.
