Altered Found Object. This object was originally a canvas used for painting. I altered this canvas by adding plaster in the back of the canvas during the putty stage and pinching the plaster while it dries to create an uncomfortable effect.

.The atmosphere of this inhabitable space is very dark and lonely. The interior and exterior are both covered in an endless shade of black adding to the empty and money qualities. The boxed in structure gives the space a closed in and claustrophobic feel to it all. There is a small gap in the back of the structure where you know you can see light and you know you can escape however, it is hard to reach.

.I defined an interior space by creating a box where you have to crouch to fit inside, however, the scary and intimidating aspect of the installation makes the audience afraid to enter. I created an exterior space by making the outside of the piece become just as eerie as the inside. The outside is also shaded black and there are plaster fingers on the exterior edge inviting the audience to come inside of the space. When the audience enters, they feel the floor which consists of pinched plaster to create an uncomfortable feeling. Also there were plaster hands and fingers touching u from the outside that makes you feel closed in.

.I incorporated plaster casted hands and fingers in the project which adds to the mass of the project by creating more of a closed in feel to the interior of the project. I also incorporated a plaster platform for the audience to stand on that has a clumpy and uncomfortable texture.

.I included a altered found object in my project with the platform by using an old and previously used canvas by pouring plaster in the back of the frame of the canvas. I pinched the plaster while it was in the putty stage to create a rippling effect that causes an uncomfortable feeling.

.The strength of my piece is conveying the uncomfortable and enclosed feeling created by the box structure and the dark hollow color. The weakness of my piece is the minimal plaster castings of hands. I wish there were more to create more of the eerie effect.
