Final Photo Essay

photoessay

Generations is a series of five photographs that I’ve created to show the five main stages of life. The first photo is a representative of a newborn’s first perspective as it wakes. It is welcomed by the white ceiling in the hospital, which is why I chose to photograph a ceiling. The second photo is taken with a high exposure and slow shutter speed. It was to represent the children’s lives as they view the world in a colorful light. The next photo represents teenage years and how their lives are full of euphoria. This photo was taken again, with a high exposure and slow shutter speed to create the blurred effect. The fourth photo is taken to represent the adulthood stage, where the lights represent how their lives are structured and organized. The last photo is taken to represent the elderly. It was originally a color photo but I changed it to black and white instead to contrast and emphasize the wrinkles on his hand. I think my collection did not turn out as successful as I thought it would be as the topic of “stages of life” was too broad. This collection was a mix of abstract concept and literal concept. The first photo and the last photo are very literal whereas the middle three are more abstractly thoughtout.
