Here, it is otherwise. Utopias are upon us in all scales and modes, as imagined futures as well as actualized projects, from intentional communities to transhumanist imaginaries, from paradise to society by design and the utopian love affair with enlightened endgames. Drawing on readings and visual materials from art, literature, history and social theory, these five collaborative projects reconsider notions of failure, human purpose, agency, imagination, technology, and social experimentation. Why are we forever wedded to utopian thought and practice? We, students of Utopia at The New School for Social Research, invite you to join us in exploring what new spaces might be opened for us with these projects and performances.
