Deconstruction (Project # 4)

In the project Deconstruction, I took a Dress made by a company based in Australia that created a dress that appropriated the Chinese culture. I created panels of famous and inspiring female Chinese activist in order to contradict the stereotype that Chinese women are quiet and submissive.

Trash, Group project

For our project, we chose to take the idea that the west village is used to be an area with a dark and dirty past towards the gay community but now it is an area that is beautiful and celebrates the gay community. We wanted to play with the juxtaposition of dirty gross trash that it once was and transform it into something that was put together, modern, sleek, and even beautiful. we used a map to show where we gathered the garbage by going to areas that were significant areas for the gay community. Although it was not an obvious symbol of what had happened in the west village the piece was meant to be seen as a metaphor of change.

Final Piece

Brief Explanation:

After speaking with and reading Anna’s essay, Something that the two of us shared was we were anxious about our futures, we spoke about how common that fear is especially amongst our peers. Which led me to think about how we were all here searching for ourselves. By creating the flipbook I portrayed this message through a question that you sort of search for amongst the book. The question of identity also arises when you pair the faces up to create a merging of a whole other self, which in a way is influenced by our peers.

Part 2 Dream Project

Dream Project part 2

In the second part of my project, I wanted to really expand on the first part of the project, and take my small sketchbook and recreate it but bigger and in more detail in the form of large mood boards or collages. When I dream what I remember most is how I felt during it, I did my best to replicate that by adding items in the collages to feed off of one’s senses. I made these collages or mood boards more to explain my emotions during the dream rather than telling the story of the dreams like in my sketchbook where I told the story. I looked up interpretations to my most vivid dreams in order to explore further and understand what my subconscious was really trying to tell me.

Trash reflection

Through this project, I began to realize to the extent of how badly my friends and I eat. I have recycled my whole life so I did not find it hard or shocking. But what did shock me was just exactly how much trash we consume and how bad our diets are. I would like for my meals to be 50% compostable (not packaged meals).
