My “Armor”

In this project, I explored many collapsible structures, and my favorite one is the telescope shape. The inspiration is from two words “connect/disconnect”. For me, I feel like sometimes when I want to have personal space but there are still people talking around, I will feel kind of “disconnect” to them. My negative emotions will be stimulated, and in my mind, I might already imagine use physical fight to stop them talking. It makes me feel like I am a Hedgehog with my personal armors to attack others.

During the process of making this “armor”, I start to play with different materials and how to make them stable or flexible. Different materials have various thickness and the way they can be bent is at different levels as well. The hardware I chose to connect my pieces are binding post which I never thought it could be used in this way. After finishing the whole projects, I realize that materials do not really have a specific function to be used. As long as it could fit and gives the way I want to be, it is considered as a functional and useful thing.

What is more, I realize that testing is a really important part of making things. Through testing, it can help me to figure out many new ways of building things together. Also, it can help me to save because I will not need to rebuild the entire part because of a tiny mistakes. Testing sounds like unnecessary but is definitely helpful.
