Book Title
The title I chose was The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. It’s a nonfiction narrative book set during the planning and construction of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. The book combines a storyline of Daniel Burnham, architect in charge of the construction of the fair, with one of Herman W. Mudgett (alias H.H. Holmes), a serial killer whose victims included visitors to the fair. In creating my own book, I decided to use three main points from that: first, the historically-inspired setting; second, the urban locations; and third, the sinister and dark feeling and the contrast with the pure, white colors and feeling. For practical reasons, I decided not to use the themes of the fair or Chicago in my work.
