Original pattern sketches. I ended up swapping out a couple in the final.

Color final

For the final pattern man piece I utilized the pencil tool and blob brush the most. I didn’t have any closed shapes so the blob brush was used to “fill” the clothing with my cultural patterns. My patterns were very abstracted from their original swatches because I chose to change the lines to brush strokes and add different gradations. Because of the brush stokes in my patterns, illustrator ran very slowly and it was difficult to work of the piece but I pushed through it and came put with an interesting final piece. During the critique I was instructed to change some of the line weights to create a more calligraphic look and decided to add some brushstrokes along the face to mimic shadows. My color version was a simple palette of pastels that lent really well to the patterns.
