Art Deco Response

In last week’s journal entry I talked about the art nouveau movement, specifically architecture, and for this week’s journal entry I will explore the movement in pop culture and media.

Art nouveau was the movement that opaved the way for forward thinking in the context of the Western countries, namely France and Germany. After the Franco-Prussian war there was a rise in hedonism and the literary movements were beginning to flourish. This piece is a cigarette ad by JOB(a rolling paper company) aimed at adult smokers. Here the woman in the foreground placed with her extensive swirly hair as the focal point and trademark of the nouveau style. Mucha also features elements of Art Deco with the geometric frame surrounding the figure
