One Subject Many Projects Final: A Bait Tree

“I am studying future archeology because I want to find out how future weapons work in order to understand what future war scenarios look like

As our technology, human population and efficiency rapidly increases, we will sometime in the near future find that most of the so-called Old Nature, such as wild rivers, wild animals etc.,  is enclosed in habitats – such as zoos, parks, gardens etc.

While this may sound scary, it is important to remember that “wild nature” is no longer needed in the future.

Efficiency is so high that basic human survival is easily taken care of. Everybody gets food, everybody is entertained and kept alive. It is not as dark as it may seem. Only the bare necessities are being grown: One type of potato, one type of carrot, one type of apples etc. All other plants are considered inefficient.

But – as I noted earlier – while this human/cultural development has been going on, the natural evolution has also steadily increased in efficiency (just as Darwin described it).

The trees, plants etc., have at a surprisingly rapid pace adjusted to this new environment.

Mobility of the plants has increased; the seeds suddenly reach much farther distances than they used to, the bees fly further away, even the leaves fall faster. The pace of nature is keeping up with the humans.

And this, in turn, creates problems for the humans.

As the mobility of the plants have rapidly increased, trees and plants from the Old Nature are designated as invasive species that ought to be terminated. Unusable trees and plants invade private spaces, just like ants, rats or mice in our contemporary world. You don’t notice it but suddenly small seeds of plants have come through tiny holes in the ventilation system, or grown through the floor, small plants emerge in your living room, bedroom, kitchen and even more important rooms such as server rooms etc.

In the year 2500 this has come so far that war has been declared. A war on all inefficient/invasive plants. It does not seem like a violent war (but it is).

Prisoners are being taken. Traps are being set up.

All of our theories point in this direction. This tree is a prisoner of war. It is being used as bait for seeds and other trees.

Trees live in colonies. They colonize areas. If one tree is in a place, it attracts other trees. This is not magic; nor is it a sign of conscious intelligence; it is Old Nature biology, ancient as Earth itself.

The military is using this tree as bait using simple methods of amplifying the already existing signals of the tree. The small sensor senses the movement of the tree and modulates the sine wave, which is playing from the little box. Every time the tree does something, it is monitored and amplified by the box. The sound waves from the box interfere with the waves of the wind in which the seeds travel. The seeds are in some way, that we do not yet understand, in contact with this tree. So they will naturally be attracted to the sound. Thereby all the seeds from the nearby areas will assemble in this room and can easily be destroyed by the soldiers on guard. This way the future society will quickly, efficiently and relatively inexpensively be able to destroy the biodiversity in the area.

WHAT is interesting then? This is:

IT is of course: A PORTAL;
it transports
Somewhere else, different time, different place, different thinking
So maybe it is HERE we combine all things

I do not particularly like his work but I want to include it because of the physical installations of it: Screen based work that is not installed correctly/spill on the wall — I find this interesting: the physical manifestation of the projected image is an icon, it is only a portal to the real piece, which is a concept or something floating/fluid which exists as data/knowledge/decisions.

Seed dispersal syndrome

Anemochory (seed dispersal by wind)

We imagine that this has taken a new form and rapidly spreads

“Epizoochory is the accidental dispersal by animals” — this is what I did with the poor tree from Ridgewood reservoir.

Calculating a reasonable windspeed and wavelength:

A windspeed of 1.5 m/s is a light breeze on the Beaufort scale, which seems reasonable for dispersing seeds. Using the physics of wavelength and windspeeds in the ocean, it can be calculated that such a windspeed will have a wavelength of 1.5 m. This is a frequency of 200 MHz. That is within the radio frequency spectrum. Calculated using: http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/watwav.html#c3

Instead of using electromagnetic waves, it could be sound waves which intercepts:

So reading about sound :

http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-waves.htm

Calculating sound waves: saying sound waves travel at 340m/s, we can use this to calculate the wavelength

Let:
v represent the speed of the wave
f represent the frequence of the wave
l represent the wavelength
we know that v = f x l, therefore,
l = v/f
l = 340 / 20
l = 17 m

Source

So this would be for me: wavelength: 1.5 meters = 340 / x

so x = appr. 225 hz

So my frequency will be 225 hz

Instead: we use the tree input as a modulation of the sine wave

Idea for One Subject Many Projects

Moving a tree – planting it somewhere else. As if: I (a human) move the plant, just like the wind grabs the seeds of the dandelion and disperses it.

If we think of the future: as humans adapt, and all other natural processes adapt to changing circumstances, we might see a sort of invasion from trees, plants etc., coming into our houses, buildings etc. A sudden increase in mobility of trees and plants will rapidly disperse them to new areas that were not meant to hold plants or where they are “threatening” the existing order. The evolution of the “old” nature such as trees, plants etc., could develop in a faster and faster pace, thereby suddenly making this invasion possible.

This could turn into a war of some sort: a war: humans vs trees.

No need to keep biodiversity; no need to uphold nature as it is in the year 2015 (it is already lost) No need since we manufacture what we need, only using exactly what we need: The extreme optimization: Humans need only one diet, they live in the most optimal way possible. The thought of extreme productivity; the thought of extreme rationalization leading to a need for (human) people to kill biodiversity; kill the trees that there is no longer a need for.

So the human system will develop a system of attracting the seeds from the trees, basically creating a trap. Through manipulation of a living tree (the prisoner of war), the humans will make the tree send out vibrations that interfere with the waves in which the seeds are being moved (the wind currents), thereby attracting the seeds into the trap. Once the seed is collected, it will be destroyed. This way the humans will slowly erase and kill entire species of trees and plants.

Ideas for MS 1: Initial ideas

Using PVC tubes to weave a net/grid, to create a type of screen. For projection with light, video etc., but also as a screen with content in it.

The different tubes will have different eco systems in them. They will react differently to different things, so one might have added salt or similar, to create one reaction, while others might have some other thing else added etc. Should be very precisely added or subtracted. The ecosystems will change, change behavior, color, electric transmittance etc.

all the intervowen pvc tubes will have different ecosystems, creating a strange web with a mixed look of many many things.

The video or light should somehow have content which makes sense in regards to the tubes. Unknown so far. It is interesting to move around on the borders of visible light; ultraviolet, infrared etc. Even using microwaves or radiowaves etc as invisible light sources.

7×7 #7 FINAL PRODUCT: “GHOST DATA DETECTION”

A tool for detecting ghosts

This tool is intended to be used by the last human on Earth. The tool should be used to detect electromagnetic fields.

Electromagnetic field detection have long been associated with ghost hunting. This has been tradition for as long as electronic history has been recorded. The tool is detecting electromagnetic fields, and since electromagnetic fields are associated with the existence of ghosts, the tool practically works as a ghost detector.

To use the tool, the last human must turn the aluminum wire around in the device. This movement must be at a constant speed. While the last human is doing this, the tool’s antenna should be pointed toward the area of interest (where there is a possibility of ghosts). If any electromagnetic field, and thereby possibly ghosts, is present, it will be registered in the tool.

Since all digital devices have been dormant and inaccessible for a long time, all digital content is now in a ghost state of being neither dead nor alive. The last human must use this tool in order to detect these ghosts. Whenever the last human enters an area with ghosts, the last human will be aware and extra careful.

Information and data is buzzing all around; the constant stream of memories of a thousand years or more are overwhelming;

So many ghosts, and the last human just needs peace.

7×7 #7 PROTOTYPE CREATION

The final product will be an electromagnetic field detector.

It is based on the Marconi magnetic detector, which is an early radio wave detector.

Marconi_magnetic

It is basically an iron wire running that you can turn, it is magnetized in one direction first, then run through antenna wire which is connected to the antenna on one end and ground on the other end. After that it is magnetized again, this time in the opposite direction as the first. The antenna wire is connected to audio pickup.

I wanted to do something which was without batteries and electronics. So it is an extremely simple device which, in theory, could be made to work, although my version is missing a crucial part – audio pickup and speakers or similar. So even though – theoretically – it would be possible to detect radio waves, it is not able to communicate them/play them.

The twisted wire surrounding the iron wire is the radio frequency excitation coil, which is basically where the radio waves are detected.

foto 1 (6)

Sketch

I made a version using not iron wire (since I did not have iron wire unfortunately), but aluminium. Aluminium wire is not usually considered magnetic (which is crucial), but it is actually magnetic, just not as easily to magnetize/polarize than iron etc.

foto 1 (5)

Final product.

Very DIY-ish but I’m OK with it. I like that it is on felt and the possibility of magnetizing the wire in the middle and then changing the magnetization I think is interesting. That it actually possibly could work (in of course a way more advanced – and more precise – version) is exciting.

7×7 #7 THIRD BRAINSTORM (GETTING CLOSER)

Having many problems with this project:

BUT looking into:

Digital data as ghosts

Imagine: a postapocalyptic state where digital data still exists but can not be accessed or modified. It is a ghost state – not dead and not living (or at least: not developing/changing – other than probably slowly decaying/disappearing) I imagine the last human on Earth would want to “tap into” this digital data or somehow at least be aware of the digital data – where it is placed. Perhaps the last human is scared of it (as we can be of ghosts), or perhaps the last human is interested in it — somehow figuring out a way to use this digital stuff…/access it as a library/archive — memory etc.

So I have been looking into ghost detection techniques used for paranormal investigations.

The tendency is to use different types of cameras as well as electromagnetic field detection. Detection of electromagnetic fields is very interesting for me because it fits well with the idea of digital data (electricity basically) as well as the idea of the ghost.

Wikihow on how to avoid ghosts

“Ok here’s what happened about a week ago i was on my computer messing around and decided i was going to take a nap for about an hour so i went to sleep and left my computer on. About 40 minutes into my sleep I’m awakened by my computer making very strange noises my first thought was o crap i have a virus or someone hacked my system its sounded like the comp was in its death throws when out of nowhere a strange white see though person just materialized out of the modem and walked to my door which was slightly open. It walked though it which actually shut the door and freaked me the hell out. (…) My question is could this be a ghost or some other highly advanced being using the internet like its own personal highway. I was thinking a being that is pure energy could acomplish a tash such as this and thats kind of what this thing looked like maybe it was interdimentional and we gave it a great means to travel though our dimension with the wifi cell towers and electrical grid”

 I am very interested in this type of completely illogical or senseless stories: why would an interdimensional being travel through wires and wifi? Why does it need that specific medium? I am very fond of the logic behind stories like that. And how do we decide what is a “highly advanced being”? Why is the internet – which IS traveling through these wires etc. – not considered a highly advanced being? Many reasons why but still it is interesting to follow the logic behind these stories.
