I was walking from the Whitney Museum to Union Square Park on a Thursday at 2 pm. I tried to concentrate on one color but it was impossible because the more I walked, the more different colors caught my attention. So I switched between different colors while walking. Sometimes, I went to blue and then I returned to green. But I realized that the colors that caught my attention, or the ones that I went back over again, were blue, green and yellow. The first color that I chose was yellow as I saw some taxis passing by the street that I was walking. Then, after a few minutes, I switched to blue by looking at the jeans of people who were walking around. After that, I switched to green when I looked at the grass, flowers, and trees. All in all, I found that I get attracted by complimentary colors such as blue and yellow, but at the same time green that is the analogous color with green and yellow green. When I was looking for the color yellow, it was not hard to get caught with blue afterward, as both compliments themselves. in the same way, from the shades of yellow, I switched into green. After thinking about why I switched between colors is because I realized that colors in our visual culture are meant to take our attention in order to attract us into something, such as a store or restaurant. For this reason, when I go outside and try to look only one thing that gets my attention, it is really hard to avoid all the things that surround me and get me focus in only one. We live in a world that is full of colors, adverts, shapes and images that are always beckoning us.
