Research/Topic Claim

Video link:

These images and videos have all been taken by tour photographers. They show lots of behind the scenes footage of musical artists that otherwise would not be seen. Many of these things show relatable scenarios. Therefore my claim is:

Tour photographers use media platforms in order to create a public perception of likability towards their artists.

Assignment 2 Final Piece

My piece was based off of the 1950s Werra 1 film camera found in the exhibit. I imagine the person who used this camera was most likely German (since the camera was made and distributed in Germany and the Soviet Bloc). This person would have been this “ideal” German figure with blue eyes (shown) and white skin (shown). This person who would use this could be male or female as shown by the collage of both male and female faces together. These people would have enough money to have leisure time, therefore they would most likely travel to places with their children (shown) such as large fields (shown). The person is also wearing an earring in the photo to show that these would be the type of people with money (middle-upper class). They would more of less be the “perfect” family who wears plaid (shown) and drives a buggy (shown).

1. My studio piece makes my research visible because it highlights the progression of my oringinal question into what it is now. This was achieved through both research online and feedback from others. The piece pertains to my topic (tour/concert photographers) because it contains band flyers that I made. The purpose of these flyers is to show that the research and actual content shown on the flyer is part of the concert overall meaning that tour/concert photographers are an intengral part of the experience.

2. I have been researching about people and how social media affects their perception of celebrities or online personalities. I have also been researching about people who actually work as tour/concert photographers. This is made apparent in the piece by the images I have chosen. Someone had to take the picture that was on each one and therefore those pictures effect your perception of how the concert is going to be.

3. I would respond to someone who asks “so what” by asking them if they have a favorite musician. Chances are they will say yes. Then I wouls ask them if they would like more information about that artist. Again, they will probably say yes. At that point I would say that your photographers can offer them information about the artist they wouldn’t have otherwise gotten.
