MoMA PS1 Art Book Fair

During my time at the Art Book Fair, I purchased a few items from different vendors and illustrators. While these objects may not influence my thesis, it still inspired me as an independent artist. My first purchase was an artists book titled, “Excerpts From an Incomplete Collection of the Publications of Nathaniel Russel 1999 – 2014,” (which can also be found on artmetropole.com). The drawings found within this book do not relate to my thesis in any way, however I found myself instantly drawn to these humorous, minimal illustrations and zines that have a similar aesthetic to the silly doodles I draw in my sketchbook. In addition to the artist’s book, I also purchased a collection of stickers from Killer Acid that also embodies Nathaniel Russel’s comical drawings. Again, I chose these stickers because they relate more to the work I enjoy doing in my free time, and not because it provided any inspiration towards my thesis. The final purchase I made at the fair was two strips of cloth with printed photographs and text raising awareness on animal cruelty and extinction. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to collect the artist’s information during my purchase. These pieces related the most to my thesis as am also planning on printing illustrations onto cloths and fabrics for my thesis.
