Pictoplasma 2016

Last Friday, on November 4th, I attended the Pictoplasma conference hosted by Parsons. Due to time constraints, I was only able to sit through the remaining four lectures, with guests Jean Jullien, Martina Paukova, Kirsten Lepore, and Ben Bocquelet. The two that inspired and stood out to me the most were Jean Jullien and Kirsten Lepore.

JEAN JULLIEN

I have previously been exposed to Jullien’s illustrations through various social media platforms, such as Twitter and Instagram. To see him speak about where he started and how he works today was both entertaining and insightful. I particularly liked his collaboration with Le Nid, where he designed the interior and brand of a bar in Nantes, France.

KIRSTEN LEPORE

Kirsten played multiple animation reels, tests, and completed projects to her audience, in addition to major milestones in her personal life. When she shared her story and presented her artwork, I saw how personality impacts the presentation and character of the artwork presented. Her works are primarily animated, and hilarious. The pieces that I enjoyed were her snippets from her collaboration with AdventureTime, Artsy Fartsy, Story From North America, and a personal short that featured an uncomfortable character laying on his tummy that whispered words of love to you.
