Research Reflection: Promotional Videos Database

Many of the videos, I watched were previews to an exhibition or a specific piece of artwork they had created. From the videos I watched, the only narrative in the video was the artist speaking. In some, the artist was shown at the beginning or the end. Additionally, when the artist was shown, it was a very short clip, probably around three to five seconds. Most of the videos, showed their art itself or them working on their art. Specifically, in Inigo Manglano-Ovalle’s work, he did not show his work. His promotion video contained clips of different videos and only showed him at the end speaking about what art means to him. Many of the videos that did contain the artist’s work showed the art at different angles. Furthermore, in Maya Lin’s video, she rarely talked about her art. She mostly spoke about her career; the balance between being called an architect and artist. Overall, the artists spoke about the meaning of their art and/or what it refers to.
